About Paul Clarkson

Paul has worked in the racing industry for more than 30 years and is currently employed by seven Northern Racecourses at their race meetings as Raceday Presenter (Master of Ceremonies) at more than 120 fixtures per year. Through his many contacts in racing he has for the last 14 years set up and run syndicates for various trainers as well as providing them with other marketing and promotional services to help them look after their existing owners and attract new ones.

Since 1972, he has been involved in many aspects of the 'Sport of Kings' including being Racing Secretary to trainer Jack Berry (1972 - 1975); Chairman and founder of the North West Racing Club (1980 - 1983); Racing Correspondent for BBC Radio Lancashire (1982 - 1987); Director of Northern and Provincial Thoroughbred Racing plc (1984 - 1985) and Public Relations Officer, Marketing Executive and Raceday Presenter for the Racecourse Association (1987 - 1995). Twelve years ago he set up Paul Clarkson Sporting Promotions which is now a limited company.

Together with his wife, Stella Barclay, he is also a partner in Barclay Racing Services which provides a variety of services for racehorse owners including livery facilities for horses resting or out of training, the breaking in of young stock etc. They also have a band of broodmares, some owned by themselves and some for other breeders. Stella regularly attends bloodstock sales both in this country and in Ireland and provides a full range of services in her capacity as a Bloodstock agent.
